OxToCC is being run by a coalition of organisations based in Oxford concerned about climate change. We set this up following the release of the report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which calls for “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society”.
Christiana Figueres – who led the IPCC work on the UN Paris Agreement – spoke in Oxford on 29 October 2018, and set out four key areas where individual action is now essential, and those are the four on which we focus.
We need action at every level. Governments and policymakers around the world must act to tackle climate change but we have a role as well! As individuals, there are things that we can do – and do them now. Acting together increases our joint impact to help achieve the necessary change.
OxToCC invites any organisation that supports our aims to join us and get more people involved and active. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
The coalition includes:
Oxford Friends of the Earth works to protect and improve our environment locally and nationally. We are currently active on climate change, air pollution, plastics and opposing the proposed new ‘Oxford-Cambridge ExpressWay’. We are part of the Friends of the Earth global network working in 75 countries. We welcome new members. Download Oxford Friends of the Earth information leaflet. As a supporter of Oxford Friends of the Earth, you’ll receive our monthly bulletin via email. The group has been active for over 40 years.
Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) – For more than 55 years we have worked with local people to make Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire rich in wildlife and protect special places for generations to come. We have joined Oxfordshire Together on Climate Change as we believe we need to work in partnership with other organisations to tackle a significant global threat to wildlife of climate change.
Low Carbon Oxford North (LCON) is a group of local residents offering practical ideas and information to help people in North Oxford shrink their carbon footprint. We are working on issues including Energy and climate change, Transport and Food.
Low Carbon South Oxford (LCSO) is a community group which aims to help South Oxford residents, groups and organisations work together to reduce their carbon footprint; raise awareness of environmental issues; and move towards more environmentally sustainable ways of living and working. Since 2011 we have set up a Car Club and a weekly Farmers’ and Community Market, and we organise three Swap Shops each year.
Local Environmental Action Florence Park (LEAF) is a community organisation working on saving energy in the home, campaigning to reduce climate change and air pollution, and supporting wildlife in the Florence Park area.
South Oxfordshire Sustainability works for sustainable food, planning, water and waste policies in our area by bringing together, encouraging and empowering individual groups in South Oxfordshire to be part of a wider and more visionary whole, and persuading our local councils to give much higher priority to issues of sustainability in the face of climate change.
